26th Annual Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners
A Call for Contestants
The
Yamaguchi Prefectural Chapter of the United Nations Association of Japan is
hosting the 26th Annual Japanese Speech Contest for Foreigners in
order to encourage exchange and deepen understanding between the local and
international residents of Yamaguchi. The speech contest is an opportunity for
contestants to draw from their time in Japan and share their experiences,
thoughts, and opinions in a Japanese speech. We look forward to your
applications!!

Date and Time: December 1, 2015 (Sun) 13:30 to 16:00
Place: Old Prefectural Assembly
Building
(1-1, Takimachi, Yamaguchi City)
Eligibility:
Must be 15 years of age or older, and a resident in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Contestants cannot have lived in Japan
for more than 5 years, and must not hold Japanese citizenship
Speech Requirements
Theme: “Arriving
in Japan: My Impressions and Opinions” (sub-topics may be chosen freely)
Time Limit: Less than six minutes, use of manuscript paper optional (but
subject to markdown)
Rubric: Content- 60 points, Expressions- 40 points, out of a possible 100
points
Prizes
First Place: Plaque
and 30,000 yen
Second Place: Plaque
and 20,000 yen
Honorable Mention: Certificate
and 5,000 yen (number of recipients may vary)
All Participants: Speech

Application:
Send in a written summary of your speech, around 1000 characters by mail, email
or fax to address below. Please include a title and subtitle, your address,
name, age, citizenship, job (school name and year), and phone number.
Deadline: October 1, 2015 (Thur.)

Selection:
The Yamaguchi Prefectural
Chapter of the United Nations Association of Japan will select 10 contestants
from the applicants. The results will be sent to all applicants on October 9,
2015 (Fri.). Compensation for travel expenses is available.
