        25th Annual Japanese Speech Contest for ForeignersA Call for Contestants
  In order to better understand how Japan (Yamaguchi) is seen from the perspective
                of a non-native and to help spread information about various countries
                to the people of Yamaguchi, the Yamaguchi Prefectural Chapter of the United
                Nations Association of Japan is hosting the 25th Annual Japanese Speech
                Contest for Foreigners. In addition, this speech contest will help in the
                development of those who wish to work to spread internationalization and
                international cooperation, to create a sense of mutual understanding between
                the people of the prefecture and residents from abroad and to serve as
                a ground for international exchange.Contestants will draw from their time in Japan, sharing their experiences,
                thoughts and opinions in a Japanese speech.

 Detail Date and Time: November 16, 2014 (Sun) 13:30 to 16:00
 Place: Old
        Prefectural Assembly Building (1-1, Takimachi,
        Yamaguchi City)
 Requirements: Must be 15 years of age or older, be a foreign
        resident in Yamaguchi Prefecture, and not have lived in Japan for more
        than 5 years
 
 Speech Requirements
 Theme: "Arriving in Japan: My Impressions and Opinions" (sub-topics
                may be chosen freely)
 Time Limit: Less than six minutes, use of manuscript paper
        optional (but subject to markdown)
 Rubric: Content- 60 points, Expressions- 40 points, out of a
        possible 100 points
 
 Prizes
 First Place: Certificate, Plaque and 30,000Yen
 Second Place: Certificate, Plaque and 20,000 Yen
 Honorable Mention: (number of recipients to be decided later)
        certificate and 5,000Yen
 All Participants: Speech Contest Memento
 
 Application: Send in a written copy of the Japanese speech,
        around 1,000 characters, and include titles of any sub-topics, address,
        name, age, citizenship, job (school name and year), and phone number by
        fax or by email.
 Deadline: October 16, 2014 (Thur.)
 Contestants: The Yamaguchi Prefectural Chapter of the United Nations Association of Japan will select 10 contestants from applicants. The results will be sent to all applicants by October 24, 2014 (Fri.). Travel expenses can be compensated.
